Texas...TEXAS......TEXAS!!!!
We were in Texas for what seemed an eternity!! There were
a lot of highlights in Texas though, and it was a very enjoyable
state.
Once we left El
Paso, we were talked into jumping on Interstate 10 to reduce our
mileage. Since we were going to be loging around 1000
miles with reduced mileage, it seemed like a good idea. So
there we were trucking along on the shoulder of the road in
Texas. This decision allowed for many highlights, two of
my favorites being us partying
with Mexican-American families on Easter Sunday and meeting
Frank, a gentleman working at a highway rest station, who
offered us a hose with cold water, some cold cokes, and some
good conversation. Riding along the highway actually was
probably the safest we were. Cars, and especially trucks,
always moved over for us, and we always had at least a gas
station every 30 miles or so.
There were so
many things that we saw in Texas and so many people we met.
I would end up writing a book. So, instead, I would rather
just say thank you to Robert of Crazy Cat Cyclery for lending us
his van and Scotty for fitting us in on short notice, Jared and
Terri Self for the pancake breakfast delivered to our tent,
Crazy Parrot for directions to the Easter Sunday Party, Tom
Sharma for the discount, Dean Tedford for the repairs, Frank for
the hose and Coca-Cola, Franks wife for the free Dairy Queen,
Eric McPike for the comped rooms in Austin, Barbara Kreel for
the phone and Soda, Richard of Richard's Cyclery for the repairs
and anyone else who I may be forgetting! Last but not
least, thank you to the Texas skies for some breathtaking
scenery!!
