The Sandy Creek Trail intersects with the Allegheny River Trail at the Belmar Bridge.  The Belmar Bridge is a restored railroad bridge that carries visitors across the Allegheny River.  The bridge is beautifully designed, which you get to view up close and also offers many spectacular views.

This trail also treats visitors to many other smaller bridges, which cross over the meandering Sandy Creek below, as well as leading one through a tunnel on the trail.

The scenery along the trail is very reminiscent of the Allegheny Highlands Trail of PA.  Traveling through the thickly wooded areas, you quickly realize that you are in a true forest region.

The trail is paved, which makes for an easy ride, but there are no facilities, so be properly prepared.  The total length is 8 miles, 16 roundtrip, so you will probably want to bike some of the other trails in the area to make up some mileage.

The Sandy Creek Trail is worth visiting if you are in the area.  As I suggested, plan on hitting some of the other trails to make up for the mileage.  Most importantly, enjoy the natural beauty the forest in this are has to offer!!
