North
Carolina treated us to two things: The Outer Banks and Steve and
Jean. We decided to take the longer route through NC and
that may have been one of the best decisions on the trip.
While on the
ferry, crossing the islands in the Outer Banks, we got to meet
Steve. Steve was a gentleman who was on vacation in the
OBX with his wife Jean. He began talking to us about our
trip. When we told him of our plans to camp in Avon, NC,
he insisted that we stay the night with he and Jean at the beach
house they were renting....WHAT!?!?!?! Are you kidding
me!?!?Stay at a beach house in the Outer Banks!?!?!? This
bike trip never ceased to amaze.
We made our way,
through thick fog, to Steve and Jeans place. Upon getting
there, they immediately opened up their house to us, offering us
food, beverage, laundry facilities, hot showers, beds, a hot
tub, and most importantly..some great people to talk to.
The next morning,
we were scheduled to head out when Steve and Jean did it
again!!! They offered for us to stay another night and
enjoy the beach, the pool, and the sound. Since they had
twisted our arms to do so, we stayed another day. It just
amazed us how nice Steve and Jean were. So, that day, we
went and saw the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, went to the beach,
went to the pool, and did some kayaking in the Sound.
Perhaps the best
part of that day was after dinner. We returned from the
restaurant to be greeted by a magnificent sunset! In
addition to the sunset, we had a very nice conversation with
Steve and Jean. The sunset just made the mood even more
magical!
Thank you again to
Steve and Jean for everything while we were in the Outer Banks!!
We could not have met nicer people not only in the Outer Banks,
but on our trip!
