Is it fair to rank California
against the other states? Was it smart to start off with the most
amazingly beautiful state first? Was it wise to spoil ourselves with a
state saturated with bike lanes? My answers: yes, yes, and yes!!
California was such an amazing way
to start off the trip. The state treats you with breathtaking views of the
Pacific, tours of forests occupied by giant Redwoods, beach towns that make you
live out the "California Dreaming" attitude in your mind, climbs up rugged
mountains, and rides through deserts where sand replaces soil. The
California landscape offered everything but a swamp area, at least on our route.
I have not even began to talk
about the people. Everyone was so friendly, offering us everything from
places to stay to money. I personally would like to thank Mike from Pigeon
Point, Elaine, Andy, Pat, Phillipe and Miriam, Lex, Paul Sanchez and Nick,
Myron, Tara,
Chris, and who ever makes the desserts at Swanson's Berry Farm!!!
California
was a great way to start off the trip. No other state offered as much as
California, that is why I try not to compare it to other states. Honestly,
just a bike ride through California would have been an experience of a lifetime,
but we had a country to bike across! Atlantic Ocean, here we come!!!
