The Allegheny Highlands Trail of MD will eventually link riders from the Mason Dixon line (Pennsylvania/Maryland Border) to Cumberland, MD. Currently, you can ride from the PA state line,  past Frostburg, to Woodcock Hollow, where you can follow roads into Cumberland.

When I rode to DC this summer, I had the pleasure of riding east on this trail, which is all downhill.  The elevation goes from 2250 feet to 625 feet over 21 miles.  That makes for some enjoyable, and fast, riding!

The trail follows the old Western Maryland Railroad, which rails still exist that you follow down near Frostburg.  It adds that train rail/tie/grease smell, which adds authenticity to the trip!  You also pass through one tunnel currently, the Borden Tunnel.  There is another tunnel on the trail, but it is in the unfinished section.

I will be excited to see the completed trail, since I am sure it will be a nice trail.  As for now, this trail is more of a connector.  My main recommendation is to ride this trail going east and enjoy the downhill ride!!!
