Some Thoughts From the Trip
Bicycling across the United States is a life
changing experience. The things you get to see and the
people you meet will change you forever. I, personally,
look at everything in a different light now. Things which
may have seemed difficult before, now seem like simple tasks.
Getting the chance to connect with nature and truly good people
across the US has also left me with an inner peace that I did
not have prior to the trip. I made some sacrifices to
complete this journey, but there are no regrets I have in doing
so. Many of the things sacrificed are replaceable, what I
got to experience can not be replaced though.
One saying that I came with on the trip that I
am trying to carry into my life is that no matter how hard the
situation may seem, if you just work through it, the pay off
will be worth it. This held true over and over again when
we were climbing mountains, biking through stretches of nothing
but sun and sand, fixing flat tires and busted spokes, swimming
in our clothes from the heat and humidity, or times when you
were just tired. Everyday though, there was always
something that made all of the work worth it. You would
meet someone or see something that made you say, "That is why I
am doing this!"
I hope to one day get the chance to cycle
across the northern states. This would offer a completely
different landscape and different challenges. I am sure of
one thing though, I am sure it would be a life changing
experience as well, in its own way. Until that chance
presents itself, I am going to hold onto the many memories from
my first cross country bicycle trip!
Thank you to EVERYONE who made this trip
happen. A special thank you has to go out to my Mother...I
could not have done this trip with out her support (Even though
I am a Bugger!). Thank you to family and friends who
encouraged me to do it and thank you to the ones who gave me
inspiration by thinking it was not the best of ideas.
Thank you to all of the people that I met along the way.
Last but not least, thank you to Ryan McClain for being the only
friend crazy enough to do this trip with me!
